Your Circle Might Be the Reason You Keep Doubting Yourself.
“Sometimes protecting your positivity means changing who gets access to you. Not everyone who loves you deserves unlimited access to your life—and learning the difference can change everything.”
Who we let close to us has a way of becoming part of us. Does that sound over dramatic? Maybe is does, until you notice it happening. You sit across from someone over coffee and tell them about the job you want, the trip you’re planning, the thing you’ve finally decided to try. Before you’ve even finished the story, they’ve found the crack in it. Too risky. Too expensive. Probably won’t work. Maybe they don’t mean anything by it. Maybe they’re just “being realistic.” But later, driving home, you catch yourself rehearsing their doubts instead of your own hopes. Funny how that happens. A person doesn’t have to hate you to make you feel smaller. Sometimes all they have to do is repeatedly hand you reasons not to believe in yourself.
And love? Real love isn't nearly as soft-edged as we sometimes pretend. It might be the friend who looks you square in the face and says, “I think you're screwing this up,” then listens when you explain yourself. No performance. No little victory dance when you admit they were right. Just honesty, followed by staying. Or maybe it's the person who gets genuinely excited when something good happens to you, even though their own life is a mess that day. They don't steal the moment. They let you have it. That kind of love is easy to recognize once you've experienced its opposite. Because there are people who only cheer when you're standing still. People who like you best when you're struggling, available, predictable. When you start changing, suddenly you're “different.” Of course you are. You're supposed to be. Not everyone who has history with you needs a permanent invitation into your future.

So notice what happens after people leave. Not just what they said. What happened inside you? Did you breathe a little easier? Did you feel seen? Did you find yourself laughing at something stupid on the drive home? Or did you spend the evening picking apart your own decisions, wondering whether you're too ambitious, too sensitive, too hopeful, too much? Pay attention. Your body often understands a relationship before your excuses do. Keep the people who can sit beside you when life is ugly without making your pain about themselves. Keep the ones who remember the appointment, the interview, the hard anniversary. Keep the ones who don't need you to dim the room so they can feel bright. And be that person, too. **Positivity isn't about keeping everybody happy. It’s about protecting what is still good in you.** Your circle can be small. Let it be real. A handful of people with genuine love is worth more than a room full of applause that disappears the moment you stop performing.
Have a wonderfully positive day! ☀️
