There is a peculiar cruelty in the human mind: give it one painful thing and it can turn that thing into a full-time job. We replay the sentence somebody said three years ago. We reconstruct the argument while brushing our teeth. We remember the door that closed and somehow forget the dozen that opened. I’ve done it. You probably have, too. Not because we are miserable people, but because pain is loud, and the good things in our lives rarely pound on the door demanding to be noticed. They whisper. A warm cup between your hands. Somebody laughing in the next room. The friend who called when they didn’t have to. Morning light slipping across the floor. Ordinary miracles. We miss so many of them because we are busy staring at the one thing that broke.

I’ve had to learn that positivity is not a personality trait, and it certainly isn’t pretending everything is fine when it isn’t. Some days are hard. Some endings leave a mess behind. There are disappointments you cannot talk yourself out of, no matter how many inspirational quotes you save. I know that. What I’ve learned, slowly and sometimes reluctantly, is that I can tell the truth about what hurts without giving it every room in the house. When I catch myself circling the same thought, I try a different question: **What else is true?** Yes, this happened. Yes, it hurt. Yes, I wish it had gone another way. But what else? Maybe I’m loved. Maybe I’m learning. Maybe something better is still possible. Maybe today contains one small beautiful thing I would have missed if I spent it mourning yesterday. That question has become a kind of doorway for me.

So be careful what you rehearse. The mind has a remarkable appetite, and it does not always know what is good for it. Feed bitterness long enough and bitterness begins to feel like wisdom. Feed fear and fear starts calling itself realism. Feed gratitude, though, and something shifts. Not all at once. Nothing so convenient. But gradually, almost beneath notice, you begin seeing differently. You notice the good before you have to go looking for it. You become less interested in keeping score. More willing to laugh. More willing to begin again. **The goal isn’t to make the bad disappear. The goal is to stop making the bad the most important thing in the room.** Life will break things. People will disappoint you. Plans will fall apart. Let them. Then look around. Something good is still here. Find it. Feed it. Give it your attention. **What you nurture grows—and your life deserves more than whatever pain happens to be shouting the loudest.**

Have a wonderfully positive day! ☀️
