One day, someone you love will become a memory. There are people we expect to lose someday, but knowing something intellectually does not prepare the heart. Not even close. Then one day, someone is gone, and the world has the nerve to keep moving. Grocery carts still roll through crowded aisles, phones still buzz with notifications, and dinner still has to be made. Somewhere, somebody is laughing, completely unaware that your entire understanding of yesterday has just been rearranged. And suddenly, you remember the little things—the way they said your name, the story they told too many times, the look they gave you when you were being an idiot. Especially that look. Those details become sacred without ever announcing their importance. That's the cruel joke of life: we rarely recognize a moment as precious while we're standing inside it. We assume there will be another conversation, another Christmas, another lazy afternoon, another chance to say, “I love you.” Sometimes there isn't. Sometimes the only place someone still exists is in memory, and memory, imperfect as it is, can become a kind of home.

So remember them. Remember the good stuff and the complicated stuff, too. Remember the laughter that came at exactly the wrong moment, the arguments nobody would bother having now, the ordinary Tuesday that seemed forgettable until years later, when you'd give almost anything to sit in that same room for ten more minutes. Grief has no obligation to make sense, and neither does love. Some days, a memory will make you smile; other days, it will ambush you in the grocery store, in the car, while brushing your teeth. Let it. There is no prize for pretending you're fine. You don't “get over” someone who mattered. What a strange phrase. You learn love's new shape. You carry it. You allow what that person taught you, gave you, and awakened in you to keep doing some good in the world. Maybe that's the most honest form of remembrance there is.

And maybe this is where positivity gets misunderstood. Positivity isn't pretending everything happens for a reason, grinning through every disaster, or throwing a motivational quote at someone who is hurting and calling that compassion. Sometimes life is unfair. Sometimes it breaks your heart without offering an explanation. I think positivity begins somewhere much less comfortable: refusing to let what has been lost poison everything that remains. It says, quietly at first, This hurts, but I am still here. Then it gets practical. Call someone. Sit with them. Put the damn phone away. Say what you've been meaning to say. Forgive the small stuff before it grows teeth. Love people while they're still inconveniently alive and able to annoy you, lol. Because one day, they may become the photograph you stare at, the name that catches in your throat, the story you tell because you cannot bear the thought of them disappearing completely. Remember those who are gone. Cherish what they left behind. But don't spend so much time looking backward that you miss who is standing beside you right now. Tomorrow is not promised. Today is.

Have a wonderfully positive day! ☀️
