# Maybe They Don’t Love You Less. Maybe They Just Love You Differently.

- Description: “Having a big heart can be both a gift and a burden. I’m learning that people don’t have to love, notice, or care exactly like I do to have a good heart. Different doesn’t always mean heartless. Sometimes, it simply means different.”

I’ve always believed having a big heart was a gift. Some days, though, it feels more like carrying something heavy. Because when I care, I **really** care. I notice the little things. I remember what was said weeks ago. I hear the hesitation in voices and wonder what happened. I check in. I show up. I give more than I’m asked to give because, to me, that’s what caring looks like. And maybe that’s where I’ve gotten myself into trouble. I started expecting people to love the way I love—to notice what I notice, remember what I remember, and reach for me because I would reach for them. When they didn’t, it hurt. More than I wanted to admit. And sometimes I took that hurt and built a story around it: *They don’t care. I must care more. If I mattered, they would have noticed* **.** But here’s the ugly truth I’ve had to face: **sometimes nobody hurt me. Sometimes my expectations did.** I was asking someone else to prove their heart by using mine as the measuring tape. That is completely unfair.

That realization has humbled me. People don’t love the same way. They never have, and they never will. Some people say everything they feel. Others struggle to say almost anything, but they’ll show up when the world falls apart. Some remember every detail; others forget half the conversation but remember that you needed them. Some reach for you with words. Some reach with actions. And some people are simply terrible at showing what they feel, even when the feeling is real. I’m learning not to confuse **different** with **heartless**. That’s a dangerous mistake, especially for people like me who feel deeply. *Someone can fail to notice what I notice without caring less. Someone can love differently without loving less.* That doesn’t mean I excuse disrespect. It doesn’t mean I stay where I’m continually wounded. Grace is not permission to let people walk all over me. But I also don’t want my disappointment to turn into resentment. I don’t want to punish someone because they weren’t built exactly like me. Their heart doesn’t have to resemble mine to be good.

So I’m trying something harder than simply “staying positive.” I’m trying to stay soft without becoming naïve. I’m learning to feel the disappointment without immediately handing it a meaning; not easy. Maybe they forgot. Maybe they missed the moment. Maybe they’re carrying something I know nothing about. Maybe they simply don’t love the way I do. And, yes, sometimes the painful answer is that they don’t care. I have to be strong enough to accept that, too. But I refuse to let every unanswered message, missed detail, or unmet expectation become another reason to close my heart. *I don’t want to become cold just because I’ve been hurt. I want to become wiser because I’ve been hurt.* So I’ll keep noticing. I’ll keep caring. I’ll keep giving grace—but with boundaries, with discernment, and without keeping score. Because maybe the goal was never to find people who love exactly like I do. Maybe the real growth is learning to recognize love when it arrives in a form I didn’t expect. Keep the big heart. Lose the scoreboard. And never let someone else’s inability to love the way you do convince you that loving deeply was your mistake.

Have a wonderfully positive day! ☀️
